This week Rich launched GoTeamFreelance, a new website designed to connect creative employers to creative freelancers. Mostly advertising agencies. They seem to be the ones who are in constant need of smart people who can work on the fly and then disappear when the job is done.
At the launch event Rich Cooper, creator of GoTeam demonstrated the state of the advertising industry, where work levels and full-time employee levels are completely mismatched. What he explained was that agencies staff for the low times and freelance for the busy times. This is how BIG advertising agencies always operate.
Having worked at large shops I know first hand how it feels to be in a department that is constantly understaffed. Pulling in freelancers when projects get hairy. Letting them go when the gig is up. It’s a blessing. I love freelancers (maybe that's why I married one!) They breathe new life into the office. They are positive and hard working. It's also a great way to meet new people...really interesting people who have decided that status quo isn't for them.
I am so proud of Rich. This site is up and running and people are responding. Hooray!
